Sustainable Events Summit

The Roadmap Towards a More Sustainable Events Industry

The events industry has a huge financial impact on the UK economy, and we are now in the run up to one of the largest events the world will ever have seen – the London 2012 Olympics. The past five years have seen the events industry do a lot of talking about sustainability and greener meetings, but how much of this is translating into action, and how can we persuade the industry that a sustainable future is the right way forward?

The Sustainable Events Summit is back for 2011 at the Barbican Centre, London. This year’s event will feature a new format offering all delegates a chance to air their views on sustainable development and share best practice on how to build the events industry of the future.

This year’s event has the subtitle “The roadmap towards a more sustainable events industry” and delegates will be challenged to present not only the problems they face in making their events more responsible, but also the solutions which have worked for them and which could represent the best model for the industry to adopt.

Who should attend?

Anyone interested in making the events industry more sustainable will gain valuable tools, techniques and training at the Summit. Specifically, the following groups may find the Summit particularly relevant:

* Corporate event planners who want to know what questions to ask their suppliers – and what answers to expect;
* Agency planners who want to be able to respond to client demands for sustainable solutions;
* Suppliers who can learn which of their products are appropriate for a sustainable event;
* Venues who want to understand how planners manage their events more sustainably, and how their venue can help.

The programme includes in-depth round table discussions on exhibitions, waste, social responsibility, carbon measurement and reduction, transport, BS8901, sustainable procurement and several case studies.

The fourth annual Sustainable Events Summit takes place on 13 June 2011. Please email andrew@sustainableeventssummit.com if you’d like to be added to our mailing list to get all the latest updates on this year’s event.
